You may already have all the info that you can get for your John McKee. I requested the service record, using form 86 from the Natl Archives, for Henry S. Mason who was killed with Custer. I have the same basic info you have for your man and thought I could find additional info from his service record. Boy did I get a surprise. For $17 I received 3 11x14 pages. One page was an Oath of Enlistment, one page had a copy of a Declaration of Recruit and an enlistment card. These two, items took up about half the page. Then the last page was a Register of Enlistments which was barely legible. The only additional info that I didn't already have was where he enlisted, that he was not married and a short description of the man. There was no sevice record as I have received on other requests. Pretty crappy I think for $17.
