Another theory of the origins of the Litteral name is that it was originally Luttrell and seem to first appear in the Welsh/Irish region during the French occupation. There was aLuttrell crest showing a rampant Otter, and l'uttrell is french for otter. Perhaps a clan was called the Ottter Clan by the french probably in recognition of their hunting skills.

Hope this does not cloud the issue.
