Also, most villages from the early 1900s are still in existence, except when the Soviet Union moved people out (to Siberia or to other parts of the Soviet Empire) during its occupation of Lithuania and except for very small settlements which disappeared as a result of outmigration, death, etc.
The Lithuanian spelling of place names (and other names as well) may, however, have changed as a result of the standardization of spelling and grammar following WWI.
