My grandfather, Albert Saborowski/y (various spellings) was born in East Prussia abt 1880 the son of August Saborowski and Caroline Less (Lessman). This is present day Lithuania. August and Albert were both joiners. Albert came to America in 1903 to Racine, WI where he married Bertha Heidrich, who was also born in East Prussia and came to America with him.
My cousin, who was born in Kovno, Lithuania, has found an August Saborowsky and Caroline in the Virbalis (Virballen) Lutheran Church records. It appears Caroline died and he remarried. August still appears in the church records in 1899 and also seems to be quite involved. It is my understanding that this particular branch are ethnic Germans and I believe the original name may be Sabrov which does not sound German to me. The minister in Maryampole told me that the ski and sky endings were added to many names when the Polish were in the area and when the Russians were in the are the is ending was the rule. For example a present day cousin in Lithuania, a Heidrich descendant, his surname is now Geidrichis. The G because there is not a H in the Russian alphabet. My Albert ended up spelling his name as Sabroff around 1915 and that may well be the Sabrov. I had a small database I put together with Saborowski surnames if any one is interested please e-mail me and I may be able to attach it.
If anyone knows of these families in East Prussia I would be happy to hear from you.
