Dean, I found 1910 Census for Providence, RI, at 6 Blackberry St: John Nadzeika, 32, born in Russia/Lithuania, arrived in U.S. in 189?; a "mangler" in a "bleachery", presumably a laundry; native tongue: Lithuanian. Agatha Nadzeika, 34, his wife, born in Russia/Lithuania, arrived in the U.S. in 190?. Native tongue: Lithuanian; Married to John for 8 years (around 1902). Their children, all born in RI: Joseph Nadzeika, 5 Peter Nadzeika, 3 Povilas Nadzeika, 1 6/12 Also living there as boarders: Povilas Nadzeika, 25, single, brother of John, born in Russia/Lithuania; speaks English; arrived in the U.S. in 1905; employed in a wire works. Kitian Kvetkonsky, 19, single; born in Russia/Lithuania; arrived in the U.S. in 1909; native tongue: Lithuanian; employed in a woolen mill. Ellen Kvetkonsky, 17, single, born in Russia/Lithuania; arrived in the U.S. in 1909; native tongue: Lithuanian. The latter two may be brother and sister and their name may be "Kvetkowsky". 1920 Census for Providence, RI, at 1 Benton St: [Note the census taker mistakenly used the family name "John" for all family members when clearly it was reversed from Nedzeko, so I have corrected it below): John Nedzeko, 44, born in Lithuania, mother tongue: Polish; arrived in U.S. in 1900; father born in Austria, but mother tongue was Polish; mother born in Poland and mother tongue: Polish; employed in a cotton mill. Agnes Nedzeko, 40, John's wife, born in Lithuania; both parents from Poland and mother tongue of all was Polish. She arrived in the U.S. in 1900. Their children were all born in RI: Joseph, 16, employed in a woolen mill Peter, 14 Annie, 8 Steven, 4 1/12 Josephine, 1 year and 1 one month It appears that the child, Povilas, is not listed and was perhaps deceased. The mistaken use of the surname "John" in this instance makes searching for this family extremely difficult. I was unable to find a 1930 entry -- probably because the name is indexed in some strange way. I found an immigration also for a "Jon" or "Jan" Nadzeika, age 22, arriving on the S.S. Graf Waldersee in Ellis Island on April 15, 1899. His last residence was Grodno and he was going to an uncle in Boston named Carl O???????y. He was accompanied by a man named Konstantin Suleski (Lubonky? Suleiki?) whose brother-in-law was the same Carl. The Hamburg Passenger Lists show Jon as being from "Stary Rud." Finally, I found a WWII draft registration card for John Nedzeko, age 64, living at 1 Benton St., Providence, RI; born June 25, 1877. He listed a person who would always know his address as Agnes -- very likely his wife, at the same address. He was employed at the Olneyville Woolen Combing Co. in Providence. His height was given as 5'5", weight 125 pounds; light complected, grey hair, and brown eyes. John Peters Notify Administrator about this message?
