Thanks for the response and offer. I agree there must be something wrong with the spelling somewhere.
Heres what I have.
PAUL SHEBEDA (from original death certificate)
died 3/5/1918 at 41 years old (no dob)in Brooklyn NY
birth place : Lithuania
years in the USA : 12y (app. 1906)
father: Mathew Shebeda born Lithuania
mother: Nastasia Ugdela born Lithuania
buried: Holy Trinity Church Brooklyn
When Paul died Anna remarried Anton Mockous (found in SSDI)
ANNA MOCKOUS (from original death cert.)
died 12/13/1937 at 48 years old (no dob)in Brooklyn NY
birth place : Lithuania
years in the USA : 31y (app. 1906)
father: Joseph Jakekotos born Lithuania
mother: Mary Baltodona born Lithuania
buried: St. Johns Cemetary Queens
I do not know if Paul and Anna were married in Lithuania or Brooklyn, NY. Im not sure they immigrated together. They had two children born in Brooklyn. Isabella (1908-1978)(Bella Petsch; found in SSDI under married name) and my grandmother. Anna's maiden name was Cikota yet her fathers surname is different. Anna had no children from second marriage.
My grandmother was baptised Birute Anastasia S^ebeda.
The baptism certificate was reissued at the time of her marriage. On it is her name as above. Date of Birth 12/22/1917. Baptism 3/8/1918 - baptized at fathers funeral at St.Marys Quuen of Angels Church, Brooklyn NY. Child of Paul Sebeda and Anna Cikota. Handwritten on the certificate it says - Marriage to Mariano Cassata 10/18/1939 at Holy Family Church Brooklyn. No witness listed.
My grandmother was also known to us as Beatrice Cassata. She had 4 children : Michael, Daniel, Marian and Charles. On the first three childrens birth cert her maiden name is Beatrice Sebeda. On the youngest childs (1952) it is Beatrice Sheperd. She lived her entire life in Brooklyn and died in Manhattan New York on 6/13/1975. Death Certificate and Cemetary Headstone list Beatrice Cassata.
Its a mystery to me. Unfortunately there are no known living realtives on her side of the family. Ive been able to trace my remaining three italian grandparents back to the the 1840's but Im stumped.
I have scans of the baptism cert, and Paul and Annas death cert if you want to take a look at tnem.
Much appreciated
