Maczonis / Macionis / Mazone / Mason
Looking for connections to my wife's great grandfather Josef Maczonis (& other spellings)who was born ca. 1865 and died after 1922 in Lithuania. His wife was Helen Marculite.
A 1911 record shows that Josef was living in Trotzko, Vilna. In 1922 another record shows Josef was living in Giraitis, Apskr. Avtus. (Can anyone tell me what Apskr is?) I haven't located either of these places.
Josef's brother Mike Mazone lived in Wilmerding PA in 1910, shown on census as Muchonitz. Mike was born c.1871, emigrated in 1885, and had sons George, Henry, Edward and Allen.
The younger children of Josef & Helen Maczonis emigrated, and it is mainly from their passenger lists that we have a little info.
Piotr (Peter) born 1886 came to US in 1901, going to Detroit, Wilmerding PA, and finally Cleveland. His siblings each came to him as they arrived.
Jurgas (George) born 1888 came to US 1904, to Wilmerding PA and later Cleveland.
Iwan (John) born 1890, to US in 1911, died in Cleveland in 1978.
Matwei (Matthew) born 1892, to US in 1913, to New York, Wilmerding, and finally Cleveland. He changed his name to Mike Mason.
Elena (Helen) born 1894, to US in 1922, shown as "Hebrew" on manifest, though family was Catholic in US. Married first __ Sklutas, Sklintos or Sklintiene, second Peter Kersis.
Would be glad to share info with anyone else who is interested.
