Glenda,
I just found out that my grandmother's uncle (the one who convinced her to "visit the U.S. for a bit") arrived in the U.S. in 1903 and then returned to Lithuania with his Lithuanian-born wife and 1 year old U.S.-born son in November 1913.
He returned alone in May 1914 arriving in Halifax. He spent a month in Sydney NS and then crossed over into Maine via the Candian Pacific Railroad headed to New Britain CT.
WW I broke out in August 1914 and his wife and son did not return to the U.S. until 1922.
Not sure why he chose Halifax as his point of arrival nor why he spent a month in Sydney NS.
Makes for an interesting family mystery!
Tom
