Wife of Thomas Lipton

I am not sure how live this forum is, but I have just read a very good book about Lipton which was recommended to me by the University of Glasgow: " The Man Who Invented Himself' a life of Sir Thomas Lipton" by James Mackay. In it he proves from church records that Thomas Lipton married Margaret Mc Auslan on 12 May 1871 in St Francis Chapel in Cumberland St, Gorbals, Glasgow. (I think I emailed one of the forum that the name was Mary - apologies). She was Roman Catholic and the marriage did not work. it is said she was sent to Canada with son William the only surviving child of two born to Margaret and Thomas. All the best, Dian Elvin
