William was said to have been 1/4 french. Could the French ancestors may have had American Indian.

A descendant says that William and Mary had a son Thomas in Missouri. I believe this Thomas is from a different William.

William in household of Thomas Davenport and Sarah (Lipsey) Lipsey, William, son of John and Angelletta
was born in Pulaski/Lincoln County, Kentucky on 18 April 1808.
In 1829, at the age of 21 years, he paid tax for himself and his horse in
Wayne County, Kentucky.
MARRIAGE: certificate from State of Indiana Morgan County.
On 12 January 1830 William and Mary (Polly) Francis were married in Morgan County, Indiana. It is not known if William had known Mary in Kentucky and followed her with her family in the migration to Indiana. There were Francis in Wayne County area of Kentucky before this time. Mary's father could have been Samuel Francis but this has not been totally proven.
In the Wise County, Texas History Book, Page 154, "Between 1855 and 1860 many families from Illinois, Kentucky, Georgia settled within a three mile radius of old Odessa site. After the post office closed the area became known as Huff Valley. Later the name was changed to Sueville, in honor of Sue Gary." " August 17, 1855, a covered wagon caravan from Salem, Marion County, Illinois arrived in Odessa, Wise County." It is possible that our ancestors were among this group but no Lipseys or Francis were remembered by the county history writers. When the war came William's son, Samuel enlisted in the Confederate Army in Dallas with his horse and equipment.

C. Furgeson says he was told that Thomas is son of William and Mary Lipsey but does not show up on the 1850, 1860 or 1870 census with them.
Names that appear on a Petition for Protection from Indiana, Wise County, Texas 27 July 1866, Among the names, S.F. Lipsey, William Lipsey, T.G. Birdwell.

William and Ludinca (William's youngest) were living with his son in law Thomas Davenport and Sarah Lipsey Davenport when William died.
OBITUARY OF WILLIAM LIPSEY
Another Servant of God has quit the walks of men and gone to rest. William Lipsey was born in Lincoln County, Ky. Apr. 18, 1808 and married to wife Mary Polly Frances, Jan 12, 1830, joined the M.E. Church as a seeker in 1834, was converted to God and remained a member of the M.E. Church until 1855 when he moved to Texas. He then joined the M.E. Church South and remained a consistent member of the same until the sermons of death came Nov. 30 1881. He was very willing and _______. He had set his house in order and gave directions concerning his bones and quietly and peacefully lapsed to the spirit land.
B. W. Lipsey was widely known throughout this county and was loved by all who knew him. The church sustained a great loss in his death and that voice that was so often heard to sing the praises of God will be heard no more on earth. He was a good man always ready to work for his Heavenly Master. He loved the Church and was always ready to defend his doctrine. He bore his sufferings with great fortitude and patience. When asked by the writer a short time before he died if he was still trusting in the Promises of God, he said he was still trusting and _____ had nothing to fear. He was very free to talk on the subject of death and always expressed himself as being ready to go. He leaves many children and grandchildren to mourn his loss but their loss is his eternal gain. May God richest blessings rest upon them all and may they meet their Father and grandfather in heaven where parting will be no more. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord God from thence fourth they shall rest from their labors and their works do follow them. ---Jas. A Smith. (James A Smith)
The Obituary is from Charles Ferguson who received it from Howard Davenport, a descendent of Sarah and Thomas Davenport.
This is one brance of The Texas Lipsey's Mary H. and William Lipsey were my great grandparents.
