Hello Richard, I have gone back as far as 1753 in Staunton Va., and the spelling is Lipham[ mostly,some variations].All the checking I have done in Union county prior to 1785 is Lipham. As you know we have a census record of a Lipham being born in Germany. I am more convinced today than ever that the Lipham name is of German lineage. In fact the will of Daniel Lipham Leaves the Deutch books to his neice, to remember him by. My Aunt told me that we were either Dutch or German, and the name was pronounced Lafam. Bob
