Hi Rick,
I did a little more digging through my old genealogical papers from the 1970's and found some things that might be helpful.
1. John Lipe (b. 1764?) in Palatine, Germany was one of the first pioneers of Root, NY (Montgomery Co.). He served in the war against the Indians and was unfortunately killed (run over) by his own horse. He had four children: Adam I., Delia, Eva and Mary.Adam I. Lipe was born June 28, 1794 and married Catharine Rickard around 1816. He served in the War of 1812, was a Whig in politics, a landowner and farmer. Adam and Catharine had seven children with three boys: John (b. October 6, 1817), Hiram (b. February 9, 1828), and Ephraim (b. July 14, 1837). The oldest son, John L. (or H. - sources differ on the middle initial) married Elisabeth Wormuth (or Wormouth) and they had three children, one of which was Adam (b. May 5, 1845).He married Margaret Pullman (one source refers to her as Maggie Putnam, daughter of Aaron and Sarah A. (Hubbs) Putnam of Johnstown, rather than Pullman) at Johnstown, NY.
2. John I. Lipe (b. in Minden on March 3, 1795) was a farmer and operated a saw and grist mill.He lived just west of Fort Plain, NY. He married Maria Timmerman. They had 7 children.Apparently the 6th pregnancy was twins (Elvira and Adam, who died together at the age of 8). Then they had another son and named him Adam (b. February 18, 1830).This second Adam Lipe married Martha Snell on December 27, 1853 and died August 19, 1889. Their first son's name was John Adam Lipe.
Maybe you could follow one of those lines.
My record indicates that I got this information from two sources:Reynolds, Cuyler. HUDSON AND MOHAWK VALLEYS (1911), pp. 1561-3 andFrothingham, W. THE HISTORY OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, NY (sorry, I don't have the publication date). The Frothingham book has a lot of information on the LIPE family from Montgomery County if you can find it.
If you are ever in this area, there is a David LIPE Museum in Fort Plain which has some interesting things and then the Montgomery County Historical Society has a good little library.
