In the early 1820's, there was a mass migration of german neighbors (apparently many related), who moved from North Carolina to Southern Illinois. One source said a large group came by a "wagon train".They settled mainly in the south central counties of Illinois (Union, Jackson, and Perry).Leonard Lipe and Lewis Wells, Abner Pyle, Peter Quillman and others, were around when Illinois became a state (1818).They were looking for new land and opportunities. They looked around, staked out land, and after the Indian wars abated sent back word to "come on out".
Consider the possibility that there was more than one Elias House. Those people had favorite first names that they used over and over.
Hope this is helpful.James T. Lipe, 765 Kathleen Road, Du Quoin, IL 62832
