Seeking parentage of Dr. William L. Lyon. We believe the 'L' may be Lafayette. His tombstone simply reads "W. L. Lyon, born 1812, died 1-10-1863". Many descendants list his birth as 1815, but his tombstone says 1812. He is buried in Hopewell Cemetary, Rose Hill, MS. He was supposedly born in SC but I have found no evidence of this. He had two brothers Dr. Noah Lyon, died 11-24-1876, buried in Handsboro Cemetary, Gulfport, Harrison County, MS. He married Catherine__. The other brother was Dr. John Lyon, died 10-18-1878, he is also buried in Hopewell Cemetary. Spouse unknown. Dr, William Lyon married Adaliza Cowan, they had three children, John Clay Lyon (my ancestor)1850-1913 who married first Alice Swetman, and second Eliza Davis whom I believe were cousins, Victoria who died in a fire with her only child, and Malvina, 1837-1916 who married William Turley Street. William Lyon died 1-10- 1863, he was said to be a surgeon in the civil war, and died from wounds received in the war supposedly. I can find no record of birth, no record of civil war service, no record of parentage. The only proof I have he exists is his marriage record, his tombstone, a family bible, and the 1850 MS census. If anyone has additional information please contact me, I am willing to exchange information, as I have tremendous information on other family ancestry, Dr. William Lyon is the exception to this.
