Thanks for your response. Iíve read Mrs. Badger's book and there are either two people named John Terrell Linthicum or there is an unresolved conflict in the book. On page 48 she states ďAnother descendant makes these dates later which, if correct, would preclude this Edmund from being the same who married Meribah ReevesĒ. The other descendant may have been my grandfatherís uncle, Hill Linthicum, who is noted as a contributor to Mrs. Badgerís book.
Page 48 has the fourth child of Edmond and ___ Terrell as John Terrell Linthicum born 1768. Then on page 49 there is a reference to John T marrying Frances Dabney in 1816 (making him 48). I believe the entry on page 48 (b. 1768) is incorrect but the entries on page 49 are correct and that these references came from Hill Linthicum who was a grandson of John T.
I have John T being born around 1792-3 based on an 1850 US Census entry that states that he was 57 and Frances G was 51. (Source Citation: Year: 1850; Census Place: Lynchburg, Campbell, Virginia; Roll: M432_938; Page: 97; Image: 193.).
So this leaves me with the problem of identifying John Tís parents. Mrs. Badgerís book has John T being born in 1768 not 1792-3 which leads me to believe that Edmund is not his father. I did find a marriage record of an Edward Linthicum and Mary Terrell in Cumberland County, VA on September 8, 1773. I have no way to prove that these are John Tís parents but I canít imagine that there are many marriages between Linthicums and Terrells in this time period. A Thomas Linthicum married Sarah Bennett in the same county a month later on October 13, 1773. I assume that Edward and Thomas are related.
What are your thoughts? Are you familiar with an Edward and Mary (Terrell) or a Thomas and Sarah (Bennett) Linthicum?
