Robert A. Linthicum m. Sarah A. Davis 24 June 1860 Wayne Co., IN
I am attempting to trace the first few generations of the descendents from the marriage of Richard Linthicum and Mary Sherwood who moved to NC from Talbot Co., MD in the late 1780’s or early 1790’s. My aim is to gain a set of facts that will improve my understanding of my own ancestors who I believe also come from this Linthicum/Sherwood marriage. If the information below reveals any connection to any readers, I would appreciate hearing from you.
This Robert A. Linthicum comes under scrutiny because there is an Albert Linthicum, age 23 <1827> found on the 1850 Guilford Co., NC census living with the Howren family. There is also a Daniel Linthicum, age 21, and Elizabeth Linthicum, age 52. It appears that the head of household, Margaret Howren, age 72 is the former Margaret (Peggy) Linthicum, widow of Benjamin Howren.
As the history of this family unfolds as told by the censuses and marriage records in the ensuing years, we see Robert A. is once Alvin? and then Albert until we lose track of him after 1870.
Just about a month after the above marriage, the 1860 Census for Wayne Co, IN, Wayne twp, pg. 729 in the hh of Wm. Davis (39 OH, wife: Jane 39 PA) shows:
Alvin Linthecout, 32 <1828> NC, wife Sally A., 17, IN.
William Davis – Jane Ann Wilson married 12/29/1842, Wayne Co, IN.
Note: 1850 Wayne Co, IN, Wayne, pg. 245 census does not show Wm. & Jane with a daughter Salley (or Sarah)… it does show a Mariah Wilson, age 10 (Jane a “Mrs” when she married Wm. Davis?) A Jane Bradberry married a James Wilson in Wayne Co, 9/28/1843.

1880 Census – Can only find a Wm. Luisicum, 17, IN, living in the hh of James & Phoebe (?) Townsend.

Sally A. Jan., 1844 IN mother – widow – 4 children, 4 living
1900 Wayne Co, Wayne, pg. 95a:
Linthicum Wm. H. <Can’t read> IN NC IN
<Can’t read> March 1850 OH married 14 years, 1 child, 0 living.
Mary J. Linthicum – Thomas C. Hough married 1/9/1892, Wayne Co, IN
John F. Linthicum – Maude Bogue married 10/2/1901, Wayne Co, IN
1910 Wayne Co, IN 5-Ward Fountain, pg. 181a:
Linthicum, Sally A. 72 IN OH NC, widow, 4 children – 4 living Weaver of carpets
Lizzie Linthicum – Wm. S. Ryan married 7/3/1895, Wayne Co, IN
1900 Wayne Co, 1 WD Fountain, pg. 38:
Ryan, Wm. S. 25 IN NC IN
Elizabeth December, 1874 IN NC IN
Minnie Sept., 1893 IN (probably the Minnie who married Troy Carson 6/17/1911, Wayne Co.)
