I have been in email correspondence with Caroline L. Britt Mullins who has written a book "The History of Mayo" which I have purchased from http://www.backcreekbooks.com/catalogs/annearundel.php. She says she got Jane from the following: FOUNDERS OF ANNE ARUNDEL AND HOWARD COUNTIES: A GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW FROM WILLS, DEEDS, AND CHURCH RECORDS. Warfield, J. D. Partly interesting because a Jane Baldwin Cotton did a similar compilation of wills about 1905. My story on the Linthicums not being Welsh comes from enough sources I tend to believe it. First all Welsh scholars of either names or geneaology say the name is not Welsh, second if you search the International Genealogical Index (www.familysearch.org/ ) you will find the only Linthicums with Wales as their place of birth or residence were placed there by well-meaning realtives following a practice of the Mormon church of adding relatives to a genealogy listing. If you are in Utah you probably have had a chance, or should take one, and visit the IGI site. All of this "Welsh" origin belief comes from Thomas saying at one point that he was "A gentleman from Wales". I could say I am a gentleman from Florida as that is where I live now but I am not Floridian by birth. I have built a picture of the Linthicums (Linscombes) being recruited by Sir John Popham to colonize a series of properties in Ireland where Queen Elizabeth wanted to have stout English yeomen create a better society. Popham owned the castle at Hemyock in Devon, the place that Sweester Linthicum's genealogist preferred as the place of origin for Thomas. I have some letters on that if need be. The literature from Ireland confirms the name Linscombe in several places. When Thomas came to Maryland he was Thomas Linscombe, later Lincicombe and finally Linthicum. Lots of room for argument but I like my story. The timing is right, too. George Fox preached in Wales in the 1655 or so period, Thomas was a Quaker when he came to America. Connection assumed.
