Interesting Background Materials on Early Linthicum's in MD

For those of you who enjoy getting beyond the tree and into the life and times of our ancestors, here are a couple of items that I've encountered recently: The first I found while "googling" for who knows what. It is free for the downloading and a quick look with "Control F" and Linthicum will give you the thrill of finding the "name". Beyond that it gives an insight into the way commerce was conducted "Pre-Paypal".

THE SWEETS OF INDEPENDENCE: A READING OF THE "JAMES CARROLL DAYBOOK, 1714-21"

The second is a bit harder to come by. It was recommended to me by another online researcher and I managed to pay probably $20 too much for one on E-bay. There is much narrative relative to the Linthicum family but really nothing to build the tree beyond common knowledge. However, it is easy and fascinating reading about every aspect of life in this section of early Maryland. I hate to ruin surprises but my misconception that these early Linthicums were all filthy rich judging from their sizeable landholdings were dispelled. I recommend it highly.

From Sotweed to Suburbia: A History of the Crofton, Maryland Area, 1660 - 1960 by Browne, Joseph L,

A fourth section covers families and homes of the Crofton area, 1700 - 1900. It includes the Duvalls, the Hopkins, the Linthicums, the Warfields, the Williams and a section called "other families." Light wear on pictorial covers. . 9"x6". 216pp. Footnotes.

Terry L.

PS I'll ruin another surprise for all you Yankees. Sotweed is another word for tobacco
