You are correct about Linthicum Heights in MD being related to the Linthicum family, so is the town of Linthicum in MD. There is a LARGE presence of Linthicums in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Linthicum and Linthicum Heights area were part of the original property owned by Thomas Linthicum and descendants.

An exhaustive geneology of the decendants of Thomas Linthicum, including allied families, was published approximately 20 years ago. We had a huge family reunion at that time and received copies of the book. The publishing also comments that the origin of the Linthicum name is questionable. There is a list of over a dozen variations of the name. But it is readily accepted that the current "Linthicum" is an anglicized Welsh surname. The earliest roots of the name were translated as "by the brook" or "near the flowing water." It's believed that this term was used as an adjective to describe the family that lived "by the brook" and eventually became the surname of the family. No one really knows for sure however.

Clear as mud, right;)
