B were. On Feb. 4, 1864 he "volunteered" for service in the Union army Pt Lookout, Maryland. Along with enough other southerns to fill 10 Regs. of troops. He served in Co. D, 1st Reg. US Volunteers. He served in Portmouth landing, VA (guard duty), then transferred to Fort Rice in the Dakota terr. Discharged 28 Nov 1865 at Fort Levinsworth, Kansas. While at Fort Rice he was treated for scurvy and rhumatism for 4 weeks in the Fort hospital. Have some more if you want it?
