Hello Saundra. Thank you for your quick reply. If you have any names/dates for the two other children who died young it would be appreciated, however, I could always make this info as a genealogical note. Norwood Smith's father's name was Stephen Irving Smith (1834-1916), so the name of his son Irvin Stephen Smith is not surprising. I did not know about this Irvin Smitb, however, but am eager to find out. If you could pass along your info and references, it might help in the search, especially his SSN. Irvin Stephen Smith would not be alive today because he is not mentioned in the obit for Ethel Elizabeth Keese. I have her obit and offer it to you for further research if you like. If you like, we could correspond offline on this.

Ethel Elizabeth (Smith) Keese (1913-2000)

Obit from the Corpus Christi Caller Times dated Wednesday, March 29, 2000.
Corpus Christi, Nueces Co. TX

Ethel Keese, 87, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2000 in a local hospital. Ethel retired as a switchboard operator from Memorial Medical Center. She was very active in Senior Citizens activities after her retirement. She volunteered for meals on wheels and worked at the Porch. Ethel enjoyed crocheting and handcrafts. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Degon of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Doss R. (Betty) Keese of Germany; five grandchildren, Chris (Karen) Keese; Andrew Keese; Brian Keese; Tony Degon; Karen R. Degon; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Madison Keese, Raelyn Newman; and a brother, John (Helen) Lilly of Reklaw, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2000 in the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Dan Smith's Notes: Ethel was born Ethel Elizabeth SMITH on 29 Mar 1913 in Ada, Pontotoc Co. OK, a daughter of Norwood SMITH and Sara Lenora LINKOUS (reference: SS application for Ethel Keese). Her father, Norwood SMITH was a son of Stephen Irving SMITH (from Callaway County MO) and Mary Caroline HARRISON (of Audrain Co. MO), and was born 16 May 1875 in the Beaver Dam Community of Salt River Township in Audrain County MO, a few miles south of Mexico MO. He was a twin to brother Norbert SMITH who died young, after 1880. He had other brothers and sisters.

According to the obit of Norwood Smith, he moved to Oklahoma around the turn of the century in his twenties. In searching the 1900 Garvin County (Oklahoma) Chickasaw census, there was Norwood SMITH, white male, apparently not related to anyone, born November 1871, single, born in MO and his parents were both born in MO; he was a farm laborer in the household of a Perry Lantham, farmer.

Norwood married Sara Lenora LINKOUS, born about 1878 in Kentucky according to the 1910 census of Pontotoc County OK, Household 152, OWL Precinct. Sara's mother who was living with them at the time of the 1910 census was named Lizzie. Norwood SMITH died Monday, 5 Aug 1918 in Norman, Cleveland Co. OK, at the Norman Central State Hospital according to his death certificate.

Ethel Elizabeth SMITH who married a Doss Annian KEESE in or near San Antonio, Bexar Co. TX, just after WW-II. She had children. Ethel died 27 Mar 2000 in or around Corpus Christi, Nueces Co., TX. A daughter, Rita Lynn KEESE (born 1947) and Doss Robert KEESE (born 1948) are the only known children I know of at this time.

As a minor genealogical note, the childen of Norwood Smith have Magna Carta 1215 lineage as well as lineage back to Charlemagne.
