BARNES and LING, fastest runner in England

I have a copy of an old newspaper clipping in the USA. They are interveiwing my G Grandfather Robert BARNES he was born in the Sub-district of Aldeburgh in the county of Sufolk in 1866. In this article he talks about a brother being the fastest runner in England and winning the largest silver cup. This is what the article says: His brother Bill now 74 years old, won many races in England among them the largest silver cup won in England when he was in his thirties for being the fastest runner in England. This article ran about 1925, so Bill must have won this race around 1881 or up? I have that Robert's mother had three sons when she married Robert's father John BARNES. The three sons names are Ben, Tom, and William (married a Deborah),could this be Bill? But if she had him before the marriage to BARNES then William's name would not have been BARNES. I have Robert's mother name as Harriett LING her father as David LING. But no 1st marriage name for Harriett when she had the three boys before marrying John? I found a W. BIRKETT winning the (club) London A.C. winning 880 yards in Time Min.Sec. 1.58.0 fastest runner in England in 1883. Could this be a William BIRKETT with mothers name of Harriett (LING), Robert BARNES half brother Bill? I thank anyone that could help me with family information on the BARNES AND LING marriage? Thank you so very much. Sandra
