The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Saturday, February 10, 1877

NICK LIENEN has the champion canary bird of Chariton. The bird is about five years old and a fine singer. When an old bird dies, leaving a helpless brood to feed, NICK carries the little fellows to the old monarch, and he carefully feeds and hovers over them until they are large enough to take care of themselves. NICK has been offered $10 for the bird, but refused it.
