Circa 1900 photo of Mary Elizabeth Lindsley (1837-1924)
I purchased in Alameda, CA, the subject undated studio portrait of an elderly woman, inscribed across the top of the print:
"Sister Elizabeth Lindsley
New Vernon-New Jersey-"
I found this photo in the same antiques shop as the photo of the subject's sister, Isabel Couplin Lindsley, from whose collection it no doubt originated.
Mary Elizabeth Lindsley, born about 1837 in Morris Township, Morris Co., NJ, died 1924 in NJ, was the daughter of a farmer, Albert Lindsley (1816-1894), and Mary Louise Couplin (1816-1900). She was employed as a dressmaker. Apparently, she never married. She is buried in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New Vernon, NJ.
