Before the 1780’s the Lindsey’s (John, Joseph and William) owned land in Nash Co NC very close to the Franklin Co NC line. In the 1780’s Joseph Lindsey obtained a grant for land in Franklin Co NC on the Nash Co NC line (and the extended Lindsey family was recorded in both counties in the 1790 Federal Census). 1790 Federal Census, Franklin Co NC (Halifax District) from transcribed information online: Huckaby, James —– 2-2-4-0-8 (Son/grandson of Samuel Huckaby of Halifax Co NC?) Huckaby, James —– 2-2-8-0-11 (Son/grandson of Samuel Huckaby of Halifax Co NC?) Huckaby, James —– 1-2-2-0-0 (Son/grandson of Samuel Huckaby of Halifax Co NC?) Lindsey, Betty —– 1-2-2-0-0 (Widow of Joseph Lindsey, son of Wm Lindsey of Halifax Co NC) Lindsey, Sam’l —– 1-1-3-0-0 (Grandson of Wm Lindsey of Halifax Co NC?) Pasmour, Wm —– 1-1-2-0-3 (Son/grandson of John Passmore of Halifax Co NC?) I believe there was a transcription or recording error above and one of the James Huckaby’s was Samuel Huckaby Jr (died 1792 in Franklin Co) . The original should be checked. It looks as though the Lindsey’s, Passmore’s and Huckaby’s moved together from Rocky Swamp, Halifax Co NC, to the Nash/Franklin Co NC area (in the early 1770’s). 1790 Federal Census, Nash Co NC (Halifax District) from an old published abstract of NC 1790 Federal Census (I do not have a copy of the title page): Lindsey, William ----- 1-5-1-0-0 Lindsey, Billy ----- 1-1-3-0-0 Lindsey, Sion ----- 1-1-4-0-0 Pasmour, John ----- 1-2-3-0-0 (Son/grandson of John Passmore of Halifax Co NC?) The above record suggests (does not prove) William Lindsey in Nash Co NC was the father of five or more sons, five of them under the age of 16 in 1790. I do not believe this William Lindsey was the same as the William Lindsey in the 1800 Federal Census, Nash Co NC. The younger males were not necessarily sons or even related. The above record suggests (does not prove) Billy Lindsey above was married with one son born in/before 1790. I believe this was the William Lindsey in the 1800 Federal Census, Nash Co NC. The younger male could also have been a brother rather than a son. The above record suggests (does not prove) Sion Lindsey above was married with one son born in/before 1790. The younger male could also have been a brother rather than a son. Guy Notify Administrator about this message?
