If you are still watching this site, then here is some info.
Robt Lindsay of the Mount (Falls Church Va.) is my 5th great grandfather and his grand father was Robert Lindsay of Northumberland Co., who was a nephew of Rev. David Lindsay and brought from Scotland and raised by him. Till recent times he was thought to be a son. Since he and his cousin Helen (Rev. David's daughter)were raised together, there was an assumption that they were brother and sister. Resent proofs show the Robert was the son of Bernard Lindsay of Kingwark in Leith.
In the 70's I relocated Rev David's tomb.It had been an above ground tomb, but had been collaped. My cousin David Lindsay had restored the tomb in the 50's.If it wasraised in this restoration, it is once again collapsed. The second tomb slab placed on the tomb was when Capt. Thomas Opie, Rev. David's grandson (through his daughter Helen)was buried the tomb. It is now what is on the tomb. It stated both of their bith and death dates. Thomas's will in Bristol Eng. orders it to be made and place on the tomb in VA..In doing this the original slab of Rev. David's,with his arms said he was the first son of Sir Jerome Lindsay Lord Lyon, was broken and later removed to the Smithsonian in DC.It was returned to the lady who found it in a broken state burried alongside the tomb in the early 1900's. I have had no luck in tracing it. The full record has been chunked, but there was a card file on it that varified the information on the slab. The same info the old family members had passed on. I have some photo's of the tomb that I took when I relocated it.I descend through Robert, to his grandson Robert of the Mount and his son Opie, to his son Thomas, who with his brother Opie was sent to Ky. to claim the 1800 acres that was awarded their father for his service in the Revolution. That starts my Ky relatives with Thomas's son Dr. Opie Lindsay, a graduate of Transylvana College in Lexinton KY, 1832.
Robert Lindsay b. 1641-2 desends from the Edzel Lindsay's (Chiefs and Earls of Crawford and Balcarres) through his mother, daughter of Sir Jerome Lindsay of the Mount Lord Lyon, and the Byres Lindsay's(Earl of Lindsay)though Sir Jerome's wife Agnus of the Mount, fife.
I hope this information was if interest.
Joseph W. Lindsay Haley III Esq. FSA Scot.
PS- I have helped to establish reforestation in Glen Carrifran in the Borders of Scotland, very near some of the Lindsay's first holdings after moving to Scotland. For their Flemish origins, see Ron Lindsay's web site.
