LILLARD/McCORKLE - Northeast TN (MEIGS)
LILLARD is a collateral line with our McCORKLE and I want to connect with any researches in the general areas we are researching. My sisters and I are attempting to locate any information on Robert E. McCORKLE - died Mexican American War
- b. estimated 1795 - North Carolina - d. 1846 - Lavacca, Texas - m: before 1824 - Christenia "Teny" (-------)
McCORKLE - b. about 1798 (1850 Meigs County, Tennessee census)- d. (unknown). It appears Robert lived in
Meigs County by 1840 and had interest in the schools and the church as he was listed as a trustee. The George C.
McCORKLE in Meigs is most certainly a brother and he is also associated with Joseph McCORKLE. There was
also a Llburn McCORKLE who was probably a brother or cousin, also died just after release from the
Mexican-American War. Robert's known children include (our line) Minerva (McCORKLE) who married Joseph G.
JENKINS and moved to Dunklin Co, Mo. - Clarissa McCORKLE (no info - b. about 1824 Meigs) - Elizabeth
(McCORKLE) who married Asberry LILLARD - and Lucinda (McCORKLE who married Lafayette Francis
LILLARD, Sr - There are close associations with LILLARD, HODGE, WITT, RUSSELL, HOWELL,
ROCKHOLD, TORBETT, NEWTON and BLEVINS. It seems the McCORKLE line is from NC through Sullivan
County, Tennessee - but we have not yet connected to which line. There also appears to be a large collection of LILLARD families in the Sulivan area.A portion of Robert McCORKLE's children who married LILLARD
moved to the Waco, Texas area.We are looking for any McCORKLE or associated family
researchers in the upper Northeast Tennessee areas - and will gladly exchange information.THANKS
