Thomas J. Eals and Sarah Lillard
Thomas J. Eals, an old and highly respected citizen, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.C. Wood, in Weldon, last Sunday evening. While he had been in poor health for two years, he seemed to be much better last week than at anytime since his return from the south early in the spring. However, on Friday afternoon his disease returned with increased virulence and on Sunday evening he quietly passed away.
Mr. Eals was a native of Kentucky. When a young man, he migrated to Calhoun County, Illinois, where he married Miss. Sarah Lillard. Just when the couple located in our county, we are not advised, but it must have been as far back as 1854. The deceased wasa quiet, industrious man and his business capacity enabled him to accumulate quite an estate. He was a good citizen and a man of sterling worth. He had lived out man's appointed years. He was the ripe sheaf that was garnered and he has passed to his final rest on the shore "of that mysterious river that never yet has borne on any wave the image of a homeward sail."
