Re: Y-DNA

In Reply to: Y-DNA by Nathanael Lyles of 1475

I have had Y-DNA. To date,(2 yrs. now) have not yet matched another LILES/LYLES. Have met many LILES/LYLES via InNet in
my quest; however, my DNA haplotype is of middle European origin while most LILES are of Viking haplotype, thusly I am not related by DNA to any other LILES/LYLES/LISLE/LILE yet met.

It is reasonable to assume that, although 5 generations of my forefathers and myself have used surname LILES, my grt-grt-grandfather was perhaps adopted and/or the product of a non-paternal event.

Here are the facts that I know to be true: My grt-grt-gfather was George LILES b. 1794 NC (place/county unknown). He married Elizabeth `Betsy' Flemons in Maury County TN 1814. `Betsy' was b Mar. 2, 1800 in VA. Somewhere circa 1820 they moved to IL and settled in Greene County. Both George and `Betsy' are buried in Greene County, IL (I have been to their graves). George d. Sept. 7, 1877, and Betsy Mar. 2. 1874.

One of their children, Thomas J. LILES was my grt-grandfather, his son, Richard my grandfather, and on down to me.

My Y-DNA strongly aligns me with surname BURTON. I've been in contact with many in the intervening 2 yrs.; however, other than DNA, no paper trail to establish intersection.

While this information may not be helpful, it is hoped it might be inasmuch as it fit the VA, NC area for which info was being sought.

Anyone please feel free to contact me at any time. I am as anixous as anyone to perhaps learn additional information as to where/whom my grt-grt-grandfather might have come from.

Paddy
