Samuel Light - Phelps Co., MO 1850
Posted by: Brent Schlottman Date: July 02, 1999 at 08:10:21
  of 2090

Samuel Light appears on the 1850 census of Phelps Co., Mo, as age 37, apparently without a wife but with children Rebecca, Patricia, Humphrey, Amanda, John and Jacob. Rebecca, age 18, could be a young wife.

In 1860, G.B. Hance was appointed executor of the estate of Samuel Light.

In the 1860 census, Humphrey Light appears as H. Light, age 30, with Riley (7), John (12), Sara (5), and Timothy (3). There is no wife listed for Humphrey. It's possible the children are children of Samuel and Rebecca, living with big brother.

Family oral tradition says that Sarah (the 5 year old above) was separated from her parents during the civil war and never saw them again.

Can anyone help me identify Samuel Light, or G.B. Hance?
