< http://www.johnsonfuneralhome.org/obitdetail.php?id=848 > Verna Deakins Britton Light, 96, born November 9, 1914, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Wellmont Medical Center in Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN. She attended Carson Newman College and graduated from East Tennessee State University. She was a retired elementary school teacher in Washington County, TN and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Teachers. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Church Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents Argil A. and Blanche Deakins; husbands Ralph Britton and Earl Light; son, James Britton; and brothers A. A. Deakins Jr., Clarence Deakins, Richard Deakins, and John Deakins. She is survived by her son, Richard Britton and wife Mary, of Church Hill, TN; sister, Helen McCrary, of Jonesborough, TN; the Light children, Sandra Ford and Carl, Joann Ford, Katherine Jennings and John, and Steve Light and Debbie; grandchildren, Randy Britton, Laura Fairchild, Carol Orelup and Michele Farina; great grandchildren, Brooke and Brittany Crowder, Jordan and Austin Britton, Nicole Orelup, B. J. Brennan, Savannah Schmitt, and Daniel Farina; and the light of her life, great great granddaughter, Cameron Kampman; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church, in Church Hill Tuesday, March 29, 2011. The family will be receiving friends from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., followed by the service at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Sam Johnson officiating. Pall Bearers will be L. E. Shepherd, Leo Conant, Austin Britton, Randy Britton, Arnold Fairchild, and Steve Light. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Maple Lawn Cemetery, in Jonesborough, Washington Co TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church; PO Box 307; Church Hill, TN 37642.
