Dear Merrilee

It was really lovely to get your email and hear more about the family. I had no idea that I had distant relatives in Colorado on that side of the family! I only started to look into my maternal side of the family recently and to find the Webber site on the web was a real treat - it was almost all done for me!! I can only say thank you!!

Eliza Jane was my mother's maternal grandmother and until about a month ago she was just a name that I was unsure of on an old piece of paper that my mum and her sister had scribbled down years ago. She is starting to become alive! She married a Welshman called Rees Jones from a little place called Maeshafn near Mold in Wales. My grandmother, Caroline (Carrie) was her first born and from the 1881 census she and Rees lived with her parents Richard and Ann. They must have moved to Wales because by the 1891 census we find them in Festiniog in Wales with 5 children! My grandmother must have been sent to say with her father's parents when her siblings were born because apparently she spoke Welsh before she actually spoke English. Having said that I now realise that they must have been Welsh speaking - I wonder how Eliza Jane got on with that!! There were 4 daughters - Caroline, Mary Anne, Eliza (Li), Bertha and a son,Richard. They must have been there a wee while because the little boy was born there. My Mum used to talk about these aunts and her Uncle Dickie! Auntie Li was engaged for 30 years and never did marry the man (I actually have her 2 engagement rings). Bertha married a James Flloyd who was a sculptor and used to have several large pieces dotted around Manchester - I remember seeing one in the main Post Office. Mary Ann married a Robert Griffiths (Welsh influence?) and had a daughter Alwyn with whom my Mum was quite close. Richard married Lily had two children, Roy and Constance (Connie) and Constance had a daughter Wendy. I have no ides where they all are now though.

Caroline married twice. Once to Charles Kirkman (5 children : Rees, Dorothy, Glynn and two boys who died in infancy). She then married Finlay McNaughton (2 children : Stewart and Joan , my mother) and moved to Edinburgh in about 1932. So my mother was her 7th child! She died in 1941 from heart problems. But despite 7 children - all of whom have now died - there were only 5 grandchildren. Dorothy's son Frank who is now dead, 3 children to Stewart and Me to Joan - !! We now live in the south of Scotland. I have 3 children myself and now one little grandson who is almost one year old. So the family is extended down several generations and time goes on!!

It would be lovely to hear if you have any details that you can tell me about the family.

Lovely to be in touch. Do write back.

With best wishes

Alison

PS - I could not get through with your email address hence the reply through the website!!
