Leaphart - Leibhard Family in SC
Hi Folks,
I am descended from Johann Georg Leibhard. He and his family landed in Charleston, SC in 1752 aboard the Snow Rowand. They were among 300 other German passengers; the ship had sailed from Rotterdam.
His wife is unknown, but his children are listed as Margarite, Maria, Sybella, and Johann Caspar.
Johann Caspar Leibhard became Gasper Leaphart of Lexington, SC.
I see from the Libhart Forum that we are all "blessed" with many variant spellings!I am particularly intriqued by Mary Libhardt's posting on variant spellings. The note that Leibhar(d)t was Austrian in origin will of course send me in that direction. Most of all, I have spent a lot of time trying to understand the name's meaning. To see Mary note that it is "shoemaker" or "horseshoe maker" really made my day!!!!!!
Anyone with any clues as to origins of this man or Leibhard's in Austria (Germany) would be most appreciated!!!
