My theory is that Sgt. George Dalton Libby is 5-7-12-1-1-10-2-3.You are encouraged to examine and rebut the argument.
"The Libby Family 1602-1881,"page 269
Royal Libby [5-7-12-1-1], b. March1837; married Jan. 1869, Martha, dau. of Thomas and Harriet (Ingalls) Ridlon of Bridgton. He is a blacksmith by trade. He served three years in a Massachusetts volunteer regiment, and for several years after his marriage followed the sea:
Children:
1 George White, b. 21 Feb. 1870, in Bridgeton.
2 Benjamin Dalton, b. about 1874
-------
Bridgton town records (LDS FHL#0,010,591) page 188 includes a handwritten delayed return of birth (written on the page, not a form or separate letter):
Royal Libby & Martha (Ridlon)
George W. Libby b. Feb. 21, 1870
Benjamin F. Libby b. Sept 7, 1873
Delayed return rec'd by Bridgton town clerk, Oct. 31, 1942
------
I conclude that vol. 1'sBenjamin Dalton Libby is also known as Benjamin F. Libby.

Allen Humphries gave me this information on George's parents -- Benjamin F. Libby andBlanche M. Seavey were married in Bridgton August 29, 1914.
I propose that Benjamin F. Libby is the son of Royal and Martha Libby, that Benjamin F. Libby was married twice, and that George Dalton Libby is his third child.
