Greetings!
It's been awhile (years in fact!) but the search for a connection to other family members and clues to family roots is still on.
In my search I have managed to uncover a copy of my paternal grandmother's
(Lee Chen See 1894-1967)
head tax certificate and a portrait photo of her as a very young woman. (I am so lucky to have this!)
Seems certain relations have a really hard time letting go of photos, and an even harder time sharing them. So, it's no wonder I have had a difficult time tracing the roots and identifying members of the generation before.
Wish me luck--as I am still hungry for answers to questions, and a longing to demystify just what happened all those years ago, and who are the members of this family one generation up.
Another amazing discovery is a small printed take-out menu from our restaurant, House of Li that was located at 60 King Street West, on the upper level--in the late 50's early 60's.

Interestingly, I spent all those years working at Mei Foo Gardens in Burlington...it must be in the blood.
My Uncle Iker told me his father Lee Ying Poy owned many restaurants around the city at one time. No other information however has been revealed.
My aunt Fernie and her husband then, Wally Eng owned and operated the China Gate at 162 King Street East which I understand used to be down at Barton Street where the Jockey Club used to be.
Well--if this rings a bell for anyone, please drop me a line. I'd love to learn more and am interested in any stories that are floating around out there in someone's memory.
