Franke,
My Grandmother was named Maria "MERCEDES" Ureta (Ureta
and she married Francisco LEYVA of San Francisco De
Conchos, Chihuahua, Mexico then moved to Santa
Rosalia, Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Most of the LEYVAS come from Central Chihuahua, Mexico
in places such as Hidalgo Del Parral, Santa Cruz De
Rosales, Santa Rosalia Camargo, Jimenez, Ojinaga,
Sinaloa, San Fransico De Conchos, Lake Boquilla, and
many migrated to El Paso, Texas in the early days in a
place called Smelter Town, that is no longer there
except the church in the downtown area someplace in El
Paso, Texas.
The Leyvas some of them worked in Mines, Pacific
Railroad, and so forth.
Lots of Leyvas migrated to Arizona, New Mexico and
California.
The surname is also spelled as Leyva, Leiva, Leyba.
Do you know where your Mercedes Leyva was born ?And
who her parents names are ?
I would be interested to know where your LEYVA side
comes from.
Thanks,
Peggy Leyva-Conley
