It's me again. Still wondering... anyone...

Is YOUR sirname Leyden pronounced lee'den, lie'den, or lay'den? or other?

There are also many variations on the spelling. One interesting spelling I found lately was "Lyoden".

There is another forum on this site for the spelling "Laden". I did find one of my Leydens spelled like that. (No. There is no "Bin" in the front of the name). I would think that the Irish name "Laden" would be pronounced lay'den anyway--- but I can't be sure.

I am wondering if the name Leyden really came from the name "O'Loideain". I have found that "O'Loideain" is still in use. Not on this site, but in facebook. Does anyone know for sure if the name Leyden actually came from "O'Loideain"??? Seems that those who say it is are not actually Leydens. I don't know any O'Loideains so I don't know if they know any actualy relatives who changed the spelling. ... Maybe the name started out pronounced as loi' den?? Nahh!

If one name is pronounced many ways, how did this come about? Does it have to do what clan you came from or from what area? Would this not be a clue then as to WHERE specifically to do your research?

Thanks in advance for any responses.(New email address).
