Hi Jerry,
Thanks for writing. I do show that Francis Lewis I had a son named William who was born in 1782. I don't have any more information about him, however. I'm not sure if the information I have on Francis and Lucy Dudley Lewises children is correct.
Since the time that I posted the original message regarding the ancestry of Francis Lewis I, I have come to beleive that Francis Lewis was NOT the son of John Lewis of Halifax and his wife, Katherine Fauntleroy. I think the information in "Lewises, Meriwethers and their Kin:" is incorrect.
I am currently trying to figure out just which Lewis family Francis Lewis I belongs in. Some interesting clues have emerged in Amelia Co., VA, with wills, deeds, etc. regarding a George Lewis, who may just be the father of Francis Lewis I, who apparently died at Fort Creek, Hancock Co., GA, some time in the early 1800s.
I will post whatever I find on this message board for all to see.
Thanks for writing and pointing out the discrepancy in the dates for Francis's birth and the marriage date of John and Katherine Fauntleroy Lewis.
Patrick
