In Reply to: John H. and Nancy Ray Lett by Loyd M. Bishop of 2591

They were in Sugar Creek township, Clinton county, IN. Most of the transcription I have seen list him incorrectly as John Haralet, or John Hallet, etc, but if you go back and read the original census records, you can understand, as it is difficult to read. However comparing the neighbors and the children from census to census (and knowing he was living there anyway--His children were born in Clinton county)prove it was him.

I feel reasonbly comfortable saying this John H Lett's parents were Rebecca Carson and Daniel Lett who married in Kentucky in Harrison Co, KY, Sept 27, 1818. One early researcher claims that this Daniel was the son of Randall Lett of Wilkes co GA, Logan co KY, and Pike co IN. I've found nothing to support that or to discredit it.

John's mother, Rebecca (CARSON) LETT, apparently remarried after her LETT husband died to Thomas HOPKINS, son of Thomas HOPKINS and Rebecca "Bena" McKINNEY. Carson and Hopkins made application to marry in Jenings county, Indiana on 27 Oct 1823.
More informtation on the HOPKINS can be found in post number 2320
