(MARY?) JANE MUSGROVE LESTER's mother, ARAMINTA, wife of JOHN MUSGROVE (JR.) of Newberry Co., SC, married secondly to an unidentied WILLSON.That was not her maiden name.
I know your source and it was one of the hundreds of mistakes printed in his "rush to be first" book where he failed to share his half formed research with others, only collected other's research then formed his own often unsupported opinions. The author felt that ARAMINTA had reverted to her maiden name after he died because he had been a Loyalist in the Revolutionary War and she was more confortable not using his last name. That didn't make much since since the 1790 census shows ARAMINTA WILLSON living next door to her son, WILLIAM MUSGROVE.Everyone in the area knew who they were anyway.
I don't know the first name of her second spouse, WILLSON, and have only lightly researched this.I was curious about an item in Draper's papers of Tennessee when he mentioned in South Carolina that "Old Man WILLSON" and his wife were driven from their home, in referring to after the war, I believe when neighbors were against neighbors reflecting the side they took in the war. This might not have been them, however.I need to look at the book again to see if I can find other references to the WILLSON's.
Some of the material in the book you were referring to was good (usually from other's research).I furnished some of it myself. He kindly added my name to the contributors which I have mixed feelings about.
I feel mean saying this because he was really a very nice person, just in a rush and cagy about sharing data himself because he wanted to be first.Others could and would have pointed out his errors before he had the book printed.I understand that many who furnished him family data kept pressuring him to rush the job. That wanted to see their name and picture in a book, not realizing that a book of that type, to do it right, takes years, even decades to produce a credible quality book. So, it is not all his fault.
A rushed book, full of errors due to lack of quality research, is an irritating problem to other researchers who are more professional. There are always some who want to use the flawed book as a a base and place the burden on you to edit and correct the errors. That is not fair.
Most of us prefer to do our own research, and exchange information with others who like to research the same family line. However, when we exchange information, we validate other's information our own research. We correct each other.I make errors, all of us do.
I share much information because the more researchers the more we can share and dig out those old obscure ancient records.I don't mind helping new researchers get started. However, there are problems in sharing with the unitiated.I once merely speculated that our immigrant ancestor, CUTHBERT MUSGROVE's wife, DOROTHY "might" have had the maiden name of BUSHROD because I saw in an old Virginia historical quarterly and noted that a BUSHROD family with a daughter named DOROTHY lived in the same area. The next thing I saw was this woman publiished, as a "fact" that CUTHBERT MUSGROVE was married to DOROTHY "BUSHROD".Grrrr.
