Dear Lesley families:
My great grandfather was James Preston Lasley born ca 1834-1840 in Indiana or Kentucky. He was illiterate and served in the Civil
War from Indiana (30th Indiana Infantry) as James P. Leslie and died in 1865. His son (my grandfather) was James Dennis Lasley. I
do not know if Lasley or Leslie or Lesley was actually "correct" prior to the Civil War, so since I have run into many dead ends with Lasley I
thought I'd look toward Leslie/Lesley. His widow used the name Sarah Jane Lesley after his death and before her remarriage in 1868. Pretty much all I know about "my" Lasleys/Leslies is on a web page at:
