Hi Frans,
Louis Lesage is my husband's great grandfather. We have a nice photo of him. Also a fine article in French from L'Opinion Publique, I6-12-1875. Which we had translated.
The article attributes the growth of Montreal to the improvement of the waterworks (being on a "mountain" growth was several limited without hydralics. At age 12 he entered the College at Assumption where he studied for 10 years. His courses are described as classical studies. The article mentions other classmates who achieved prominence. He received major orders in the church, but in 1851 "returned to the world". He is also said to go to the museum and sketch. He tutored in the evening and worked in an office by day. He contributed architecturally to the building of the Palace of Justice, Church of St. Peter, and others. Took the engineering exam. There are particulars about the Water Works if you are interested. In 1860 his employees presented him with a set of drafting tools in a wooden case with engraving. More later. Janet
