The LeRoux/Roux DNA Surname Project has been recently established through Family Tree DNA in order to assist genealogists with their family research. Because of surname spelling variations within related families,tracing an accurate ancestry through many generations within the LeRoux/Roux surname can be challenging. DNA testing is a useful tool in establishing or confirming a suspected lineage despite variations in surname spelling. For this reason, the LeRoux/Roux Surname Project serves all the following name variants: LeRoux, LaRoux, Roux, Rue, Laroux, Larue, leroux, lerue. Although this project was originally designed to include family lines that trace through the United States, Canada, and France, it is open to anyone worldwide interested in researching this surname.
This and other DNA surname projects work by comparing the Y chromosomes of males that share a surname (or close variation). By comparing how closely two mens Y chromosomes match, one can determine how closely related these individuals are, including how far back in time they share a common ancestor.
The more participants a project has, the more successful it will be showing how people are related.
