Hi Isabel! To expand a little more on William Lermond, your Robert’s brother. In the Harrington Churchyard near where John Lermond and sons William and Robert lived in Bristol, there is a stone for William’s baby son Samuel. The stone calls him “son of William and Judah”. He died 1 Feb 1796 at age 14 months, making him born ca Dec of 1794. Baby Samuel could not have been the son of William of Union born 1781. First, William was of Bristol, not Union, and, more important, the William of Union would have been only 13 years old when baby Samuel was born!
There was much deeding back and forth 1794-1802 between Robert and father John. In fact, book 37-pg 180 shows that Robert Lermond of Bristol was paid $70 by John Lermond “my father” of Bristol for ˝ half of a lot in Waldoboro. I don’t know now (my notes got mixed up) if half the lot totaled 230 acres or if it was ˝ half of a 230-acre lot. I think the total was 230 acres. The deed was signed 29 Feb 1796 and recorded 15 Feb 1796. So we know that John was still alive in 1796. And we also know, as I told you before, that his wife as of 1775 was Hannah. Since Robert was born in 1775 and my William sometime between 1766 and 1774, it appears that Hannah was also probably their mother. Now to find out who Hannah was!
I did not have the time to go through all the deeds between father John and your Robert but must go back and get details and will let you know. The good thing about Lincoln Co early deeds is that they combine grantee and grantor books so you are not constantly going back and forth. Does that happen in other ME counties too? I know York does not do that, and NH counties do not either.
When did Robert remove to Liberty? There is a deed dated 4 Aug 1825 in which my William of Waldoboro deeds to Eben Everett of Montville (133-146) and the witness is Robert Lermond who, I presumed, was his brother, not son Robert K. I am not sure. In the Workbook, you thought Robert was born about 1804 and died in 1839. Do you know where you got his approximate birth year?
Hope to hear from you!
