Lepine Family Genealogy Forum

Jan, I am kind of jumping in here not knowing what you are researching. My ggg-grandrather was Louis Lepine born 1788 near Montreal Canada. He had a brother Pierre who was born in 1769. Both were voyaguers and went up and down the Mississippi River as well as their forebearers. From what I understand the Lepines came from Chateau de Loire France. I was there researching them and the name is still in the area. I even saw a large Lepine sign advertising a garage or repair shop in the little town. I think they were Huguenots, but got myself into deep trouble with the priest in Chateau de Loire when I suggested this. The name Berard seems to be the same as Lepine and Gabriel Berards birth record from 1600's was kept at the local archives for the area. You could not photo copy it or take a picture of it even as it is condsidered a archival treasure as it is so old. I would have to look up these dates to give you the exact date. The Berard/Lepine family was from Carrcassonne [the walled city] . We also went there and saw a Berard Turret in the old wall. This would show he was an important person to the king and would have men, horses, supplies, and family accomodation in the turret. The Lepines I am aware of came to Canada, but they could also have gone to Egland or anywhere to be safe. If you seeany connection here please get to me. This could be interesting.
