Nancy, I believe I have some good news for you. This branch is not dead, at least not yet without some further research. I found John and Josephine Leonard on the 1900 US Censes with one son. It is difficult to read but I believe it is Henry or Harvey Leonard, 25 years old, b.1875 in Pennsylvania. He is the same age as Olpha and may have further descendants. Here is the family information from the US Census that I got off Heritage Quest online.

1850 US Census, Ohio, Clermont, Batavia TWP (Image #10 on Heritage Quest)

Line 30, Aaron Leonard, 48, M, Blacksmith, POB, OH
31       Elizabeth, 42, F, POB, OH
32       James P., 23, M, Blacksmith, POB OH
33       Frances M., 18, F, POB OH
34       John, 16, M, POB OH
35       George W., 10, M, POB OH
36       Amelia L., 8, F, POB OH

Also with this family is;
37       William A. Willie, 18, M, Blacksmith, POB OH
38       Jesse Ellis, 24, M, Cabinet Maker, POB OH

I believe that this “Jesse Ellis” is a brother to your Henry John Ellis that married Maria. No proof, but an educated guess at this point.

1860 US Census, Ohio, Hamilton, 14 Ward Cincinnati

Listed as a “Boarding House” with Aaron Leonard as the owner

Line 17, Aaron Leonard, 57, M, Blacksmith, POB OH
18       Elizabeth, 53, F, POB OH
19       Fanny, 27, F, POB KY (Note this change of place of birth for Fanny to Kentucky)
20       John, 24, M, Painter, POB OH
21       George, 20, M, POB OH
22       Amelia, 17, F, POB OH

9 additional people are listed as “Boarders”

Line 4 and 5 are a physician and servant living in the household, presumably to care for Aaron Leonard, invalid.

61       Henry or Harvey (?), Son, DOB Apr 1875, 25, single, POB PA

Note place of birth for Josephine change from Ohio to PA which may explain the birth of their son in PA.

If you can, get Aaron Leonard’s death certificate. That may list parents and additional information to get you moving in the right direction.

Good hunting.
