Thanks for the response. That's an interesting tale.
I do know that my Portraine ancestor (Mathew John Leonard) who emigrated to Maine, lived from 1854-1939. I don't know dates of his ancestors yet, but I know his father was Mathew Leonard, then Patrick, then Thomas. This Thomas was born in Spain, and married a Byrne, and died in Portraine...I imagine that takes us back to the 1780s or so.
Can you give me ages/dates on the people you mentioned?
I went to the Mormon library, but didn't find any Donabate Parish records stored there. One day, I'd love to visit Dublin and try my hand at the local research. I just know, though, that if I can meet a local cousin, they'll likely have lots of information, as the Irish are usually well-versed on their history.
