Leonard/Messersmith MISTAKE

While researching my Leonards my gr. g-ma Merl Leonard Vaughn said we were relaterd to the Messersmith's so when I came acros my gr. gr. gr. g-pa Oliver P. Leonard and he fit perfectly into the time frame of Isaac Leonard and Christina Messersmith. Unfortunately Oliver's death certificate just burst my bubble. According to Benton County, Indiana death certificate for Oliver P. Leonard he died 1 Jul. 1918 while living in Fowler, Benton, Indiana with his son John. The certificate states Oliver's father is William and was born in Indiana and Oliver's mother is unknown and born in Pennsylvania. I am back to square one so if this sounds familiar please let me know. Oliver married Sarah J. Darby in Fayette Co., Indiana and their son Byron stayed around Fayette Co., son Charley lived around Monroeville, Allen,Co., son Alfred went to Battle Creek, Iowa, Ernest and John I think stayed around Benton Co.
