A biography/family history of William M. Leonard is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 934 & 935.
William was born, 25 Mar 1862, son of Ebenezer and Mavilla (Leonard) Leonard, natives of New York. They were married in Green Lake County, WI, and later located to a farm near Zumbroda, MN, and in later years moved to Red Wood County, MN, where Mrs. Leonard died in 1898. Children: Emma, Ernest (Tacoma, WA), Joel (MN), Mary (Mrs. Isaac Fletcher, San Francisco, CA), Cynthia (Mrs. Charles Gillette, Colrain, MN), William M. (Glasgow, MT), Mabel (Mrs. Ed Peters, Addie, WA).
William was educated in Zambrodia and became a farmer at Red Wood Falls. When he sold his farm, he moved to Hutchison, MN, and later to Park River, ND, where he was in the implement business, then in the livery business and horse dealing. In 1907, he became a farmer four miles east of Glasgow, MT; also dairy farming and raising hogs.
On 25 Sep 1887, William married Mrs. Emily (Leatherman) Baker, daughter of Olan B. and Harriet (Hubbard) Leatherman. Emily died 20 July 1919, Valley County, MT. Mrs. Leonard's daughter by her first marriage: Mrs. James Hemphill (Rensselaer, IN). Frank Leonard (adopted son of Mr. Leonard, Park River, ND).
In the 1930 Federal Census, Glasgow, Valley County, MT, William was married to Ellen J., born ca 1864 in Canada, immigrated 1868.
