GEORGE WASHINGTON LEONARD - 1880'S DAVIDSON CO., NC
George Washington Leonard, son of Solomon & Polly (Leonard) Leonard was my ggg-grandfather.I am trying to determine of which CSA unit MY George Washington Leonard was a member. There apparently were TWO George Washington Leonards in Davidson Co., NC.My "G.W." was b.1/17/1826 in Davidson Co. & d. 4/13/1906 in Davidson Co.He m. Esther Louise "Luizer" Freedle 7/2/1848, and they are buried at Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC.My father remembers hearing his grandmother, "Betty" Leonard Everhart, say that her father came back from the civil war with just his gun & his horse. She said he was allowed to keep them because he was a Captain. He was a blacksmith and a farmer in Davidson Co., NC.
The OTHER "G.W." was b. 4/30/1845 & d. 5/30/1900.He m. Caroline C. Hedrick. They are buried at Beck's United Church of Christ near Lexington. This G.W.'s tombstone says that he was a member of the 10th Bn. NC Heavy Artillery, CSA.
Can anyone help me find out what unit MY George Washington Leonard was in?
